Stone Masonry
Stone masonry is one of several techniques which can be incorporated by Stonehedge to create stone features. Stone masonry (as opposed to dry stone walling) involves the use of mortar to bind stones together. This technique allows for very
solid structures which can defy the principles of gravity and friction applied in dry stone walling. A 10 metre high fireplace needs to be built with mortar!
A stone feature that will be used by many pe
ople typically also needs mortar to hold it together. An outdoor entertaining area, a winding path, a tall entrance wall, even the humble pizza oven all need mortar to give them the necessary structure and stength.
The art however is to create a look that suits your environment and the style you are aiming for. If you want a dry look on any of these features, it is possible, using a combination of stone masonry and dry stone walling techniques. This really is the versatility of using stone. Stone masonry effectively extends the range of stone features which can be created.
The technique of stone masonry allows us to extend the range of stone features that we can build, design and restore for you, including:
